Rudranath offers some of the finest sceneries of the snowy peaks of the Himalayas and at an elevation of 2286 meters, the beholder would be excited to experience the unspoiled beauty of Nature. The thick forest, meadows of aromatic flowerbeds, sparkling lakes and the glittering peaks, Rudranath is endowed with bewitching sceneries.

Unique in every way, Rudranath trek unveils the rustic and imposing gorgeousness of a charismatic surrounding. The trek in Rudranath is somewhat tedious and risky but is highly rewarding. Nothing would stop the trekker from embarking such a nice trail since it carries him through a world of unsurpassed prettiness. A trait through the sky-scraping creases makes one tremble but the scenic beauty of the valley with rich wild orchards, alpine meadows and dense woods takes away all your uneasiness.

Obviously the tranquility and serenity of the place is an added attraction to the casual visitors though one cannot deny the religious significance of Rudranath. One among the Panch Kedars of the Hindu ideology, the place owes much to the old temple for its magnificence and popularity.

BEST TIME TO VISIT
Rudranath has a cool but pleasant climate in summers and chilly climate in winters.

Summers (April to August) are very pleasant with moderate climate, with average around 13°C and maximum touching around 17°c. Summers is ideal for all sight seeing, temple visit and also for visiting nearby attractions.

Monsoons (September to November) are accompanied with scanty rains. This period is good for sight seeing as the hilly panoramic views are very attractive in rains.

Winters (December to March) are chilly days with average minimum touching near 4°C. Minimum can touch sub zero levels. Snow falling seen during winters.

The best season to visit Rudranath is from April to November.

April to August offers cool and pleasant climate and the right period to spend relaxing moments in the outdoors and is ideal for temple visits. September to November is good for sight seeing and temple visits. December to March is snow bound and chilly.

Kalpeshwar

Kalpeshwar is one of the Panch Kedars located in the proximity of Rudranath. Lord Shiva is worshipped in the temple in the form of entangled hair.

Rudranath Temple

Rudranath Temple is situated in Gaurikund and is one of the Panch Kedars. The temple is located at a height of 2,286 m above the sea level and is a rock temple. Tourists can see the Nanda Devi, Trishul and Nanda Ghunti Himalayan peaks from the site. The range of the Himalayas resembles the face of Lord Shiva and is also known as Rudramukh. Moreover, the temple is situated amidst holy ponds such as Suryakund, Chandrakund and Tarakund. It is believed that the temple was built by the Pandavas for seeking repentance after the battle of Kurukshetra.

Madmaheshwar Temple

Madmaheshwar Temple, one of the Panch Kedars, is the place where Lord Shiva’s navel fell. Situated at a height of 3,289 m above sea level, the temple remains closed for six months and the silver idols are shifted to Ukhimath for worship. Tourists can also visit nearby Kali Temple where the statue of Har Gauri is installed. Moreover, while visiting the place, tourists can also witness the peaks like Kedarnath, Chaukhamba and Neelkanth.

About Nandikund

Nandikund is a lake dedicated to Lord Shiva and is believed that Nandi Bull of the lord used to drink water from this lake. It is situated in green meadows and is surrounded with peaks covered with snow from three sides. This kund has mythological relevance as it is believed that a corroded sword seen near the lake belongs to Pandavas. Nandikund is also popular as during summers, the water is found extremely cold. Besides, Madhyamaheshwar Ganga also originates from the kund and reflection of Chaukhamba peak in the lake can also be seen.

Panar Bugiyal

Panar Bugiyal is a meadow that is filled with flowers and seems to be like a flowery carpet. Tourists can also visit temples and a waterfall located in the nearby area.

Pitradhar

Pitradhar is located at a high elevation where tourists can enjoy trekking on the Himalayan Mountains. The site also provides a view of the valley and is dotted with asymmetrical rocks and pebbles.
